Today we made the ‘Gregg seed crunch bar’-a ‘soft & datey’ gourmet protein bar recipe.
This bar had an above average number of ingredients (16 total), with the following base selections:
- Raw almond butter
- Pea protein isolate
- Brown rice protein
Chia powder was also used to increase omega 3 content in the recipe. Chia powder also contributes good levels of fiber and some trace minerals.
Both oats and cacao nibs were also added, both of which contribute nice flavor and texture. Cacao nibs are one of the crunchiest options we offer and have a nice chocolate flavor.
Under the ‘nuts & seeds’ category, flaxseeds and pumpkinseeds were used.
To increase the moisture levels and add some healthy saturated fats, organic coconut oil was another ingredient used in this recipe. Coconut oil contains lauric acid and has some unique anti-microbial properties. It also ads a hint of coconut flavor when added to most recipes, though this does depend on the other ingredients used.
Dried shredded coconut and banana were the two dried fruit options added to ‘Gregg seed crunch’. These two ingredients blend nicely with each other.
The other notable flavor enhancer added was Brazilian coffee. It always contributes strong flavor, as well as some natural caffeine.
The final two ingredients used were organic maca powder and organic freeze-dried wheatgrass powder, both of which offer some powerful nutrients.

What to Expect
An earthy datey/almond/coffee flavor with a hint of banana/coconut. Very datey, and relatively sweet. Fairly crunchy texture thanks to the cacao nibs and pumpkin seeds.
