Cacao nibs (or Cocoa nibs) are a popular ingredient at The Bar Shack. They add both a nice flavor and crunchy texture to your bar.
What are They?
Cacao nibs are chopped cocoa beans–chocolate in it’s purest form! The beans are dried and fermented and then cut up into small pieces.
What do they Taste Like?
Like unsweetened chocolate. They have a slightly bitter/nutty flavor.
What’s their Texture Like?
Very crunchy, and unlike some other ingredients that start out crunchy but become soft over time cacao nibs remain crunchy in your bars for quite a while.
Why are they Good for Me?
- Very high in fiber (around 9g per 30g serving)
- High in magnesium, potassium, iron, and sulfur
- Contain phenylethylamine, a ‘mood enhancing’ substance
- Source of antioxidants
Fun Fact: Cacao nibs contain more health enhancing flavanoids than red wine, green tea, and blueberries!
