Adding dried apple to your protein bar recipe can add a nice familiar flavor.

Apple pairs well with the following ingredients:

  • Oats
  • Walnuts
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Vanilla

What’s the Texture?

The texture depends on whether you use a freeze-dried or heat/sun dried apple.

We recommend freeze-dried apple because it packs in much more flavor. It’s initially hard and crunchy but becomes soft over time as it absorbs the oils an liquids from other ingredients.

Soft dried apple (not freeze-dried) also works, but has to be chopped into very small pieces in order to work.

Although heat dried apple  doesn’t have nearly as much flavor as freeze-dried, it’s easier to find in small quantities.

Any Health Benefits?

Dried apple isn’t touted as a ‘super food’, but here are a few health benefits:

  • Contains antioxidants and flavanoids
  • High in fiber
  • High in pectin

Tip: Look for organic dried apple, as non-organic usually contains sulphates.
